Government Blocks OTT Platforms and Apps for Obscene Content

आई एंड बी रिलीज में कहा गया कि संघ मंत्री अनुराग ठाकुर ने प्लेटफ़ॉर्मों की जिम्मेदारी को बार-बार उजागर किया है कि वे ‘रचनात्मक अभिव्यक्ति’ के नाम पर अश्लीलता, बेहूदगी और दुर्व्यवहार को नहीं प्रसारित करें। संघ सरकार ने आज ओटीटी ऐप्स, वेबसाइट्स और सोशल मीडिया प्लेटफ़ॉर्मों को अश्लील और बेहूदा सामग्री के प्रसारण के लिए प्रतिबंधित किया। सूचना और प्रसारण मंत्रालय (आई एंड बी) ने आज 18 ओटीटी प्लेटफ़ॉर्मों को ब्लॉक किया है जिन्होंने अश्लील, बेहूदा और कुछ मामलों में पोर्नोग्राफिक सामग्री को प्रसारित किया था। सरकार ने इन प्लेटफ़ॉर्मों से जुड़ी 19 वेबसाइटें, 10 ऐप्स (Google Play Store पर 7, Apple App Store पर 3) और 57 सोशल मीडिया खातों को भी प्रतिबंधित किया है। जानिए आज ब्लॉक किए गए ऐप्स की सूची:

“इनमें से एक ओटीटी ऐप का Google Play Store पर 1 करोड़ से अधिक डाउनलोड्स था, जबकि दो अन्य के पास Google Play Store पर 50 लाख से अधिक डाउनलोड्स थे। इन ओटीटी प्लेटफ़ॉर्मों ने सोशल मीडिया को व्यापक रूप से उपयोग किया था ताकि वे अपनी वेबसाइट और ऐप्स पर दर्शकों को आकर्षित करने के लिए ट्रेलर, विशेष दृश्य और बाहरी लिंक्स का प्रसार कर सकें। संबंधित ओटीटी प्लेटफ़ॉर्मों के सोशल मीडिया खातों के कुल फॉलोअर्स की संख्या 32 लाख से अधिक थी,” आई एंड बी मंत्रालय ने रिलीज में कहा।

Government Blocks OTT Platforms and Apps for Obscene Content
In a significant move, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has taken action against several Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms and apps for hosting content deemed obscene and vulgar. The government’s decision to block 18 OTT platforms, 19 websites, 10 apps, and 57 social media accounts comes amidst growing concerns over the proliferation of inappropriate content on digital platforms.
The banned content was found to be in violation of various laws, including the Information Technology Act, Indian Penal Code, and Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act. Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Anurag Singh Thakur, has stressed the responsibility of platforms to refrain from propagating obscenity, vulgarity, and abuse under the guise of creative expression.
This crackdown on OTT platforms underscores the government’s commitment to regulating digital content and protecting societal values. The decision reflects concerns about the impact of explicit content on impressionable minds and the need to maintain cultural and moral standards in media.
Among the banned platforms are well-known names such as Dreams Films, Voovi, Uncut Adda, and Prime Play, along with several others. Some of these platforms had amassed millions of downloads on popular app stores, indicating their widespread reach among users.
The Ministry’s action also extends to social media handles associated with these platforms, which were utilized to disseminate trailers, specific scenes, and external links to attract audiences. The cumulative followership of these accounts was reported to be over 32 lakh users, highlighting the significant audience engagement with the banned content.
The decision to block these platforms was made under the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The government’s move underscores the importance of enforcing existing regulations to curb the spread of objectionable content and uphold ethical standards in digital media.
